Uzo Aduba is to star in Shonda Rhimes' newest series, White House murder mystery The Residence.
The Orange Is The New Black star, 41, will reunite with Netflix for her part in the new show from Shondaland's Rhimes and Betsy Beers, and play a wildly eccentric Metropolitan Police Department detective tasked with solving a murder with multiple suspects.
Aduba's character Cordelia Cupp is described as an 'astute observer of human behavior, with a distinctive and, to some, unsettling, conversational style' by The Hollywood Reporter.
A description of the eight episode series reads: '32 rooms. 157 suspects. One dead body. One wildly eccentric detective. One disastrous State Dinner.
'The Residence is a screwball whodunnit set in the upstairs, downstairs and backstairs of the White House, among the eclectic staff of the world’s most famous mansion.'

The drama is based on Kate Andersen Brower’s book, The Residence: Inside the Private World of the White House, with showrunners crafting a new murder mystery story,
Scandal boss Paul William Davies will act as showrunner and executive producer with Rhimes and Beers.
Aduba played Suzanne 'Crazy Eyes' Warren on Orange Is the New Black from 2013-2019 for which she won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series in 2014, an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in 2015, and two SAG Awards for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series in 2014 and 2015.
The Boston native married filmmaker Robert Sweeting in September 2020. anniversary.
Aduba opened up on the challenges of putting together a wedding during the pandemic in 2020.
She said that 'a lot of Amazon and Etsy gets you through' and that the toned-down proceedings were 'awesome.'
Aduba said the wedding was held 'quietly and with a small group' of their 'most loved and closest family and friends.'

Aduba in September took to Instagram with a wedding shot alongside Sweeting and a quote from the 1989 film When Harry Met Sally, 'When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.'
Aduba said of her wedding, 'For some of us, it can feel like we spend our whole lives waiting for our special someone. My heart, my love - I'm so happy my life started last year with you. You're the best thing that ever happened to me.'
Later in the month, she posted a vacation shot from Mexico with her new husband, writing, 'Some much needed restoration, recovery, and relaxation.
'So thankful to get away and celebrate Robert and my anniversary with a couple of our favorite humans.'
